Assessment
Throughout the unit the students will be informally and formally assessed in many ways in order to get an accurate understanding of their comprehension of the essential and guiding questions. The assessment will take various forms in order to accommodate for all learners. Students will be informally assessed based on large group participation, small group participation and the depth of their generated ideas for class lists and discussions.
Formally, the students will be given time to journal after many activities. The teacher will evaluate the depth of thinking and understanding in their journals. Along with that, the students will be formally assessed through their answers given on their exit tickets.
At the end of each lesson you will find a section on assessment for that specific lesson.
Final Assessment
The final assessment will be a comprehension question for each of the students. The students will be expected to answer the essential questions of the unit. The students will be given time to answer the question in written or picture format to the best of their ability. With each student's answer the teacher will be able to recognize if the students understood the main points of the lesson as well as use the student's answers to evaluate his/her own teaching and make changes for future lessons.
For final assessment the teachers will collect and read the students observation journals to evaluate their depth of thinking regarding the issues.
